SL upset BD 1-0 in friendly

Nilphamari: Bangladesh national team suffered an upset against Sri Lanka on Wednesday when the Islanders beat the Red and Greens in a FIFA international friendly thanks to a solo long range goal. Bangladesh started the game on the front foot from the 4:00pm kick-off at the Sheikh Kamal Stadium in Nilphamari on August 29. However, Lankan player Faizal took his chance in the 10th minute and unleashed a 40 yard shot which caught goalkeeper Sohel by surprise as he failed to run back to his goal-line from an advanced position as he saw the ball creep under the crossbar and into the net. Taking the lead, the Sri Lanka team started playing more defensively and all of Bangladesh’s attacks were thwarted by a flock of Lankan players in and around the penalty area. Head coach Jamie Day sent in some fresh legs after the half time break including mercurial midfielder Jamal Bhuiyan but Sri Lanka managed to keep Bangladesh at bay till the final whistle. Bangladesh will now look to rectify their mistakes made in the match and sharpen their attack as the SAFF Suzuki Cup 2018 is knocking at the door.
