Thumping comeback for U16 girls

Paju, July 15: Bangladesh national under-16 women’s team came back with a crushing 9-0 victory over South Korean side Yulmyun Middle School women’s football team.

The Bengal girls gave the South Korean side no chance when the two teams squared off in Paju on Friday afternoon.

In the first half, the Koreans tried to contain the visitors but to no avail.

The Red and Greens broke the deadlock in the 11th minute through Anuching Mogini.

Then Mousumi and Nargis scored on the 25th and 30th minutes respectively to give Bangladesh a comfortable 3-0 lead before the break.

Bangladesh were at it again soon after the interval.

As the Koreans tried get out of their shell a little, the Bangla girls found more space in the final third and added a fourth just 9 minutes after the restart.

Then Monica scored twicein four minutesto make it 6-0.

Akhi was on hand on the 66th minute to gobble up an easy chance netting Bangladesh’s 7th in the match.

Razia and Marzia then scored on the 75thand 80thminute respectively before the referee blew the final whistle and put the South Koreans out of their misery.

The victory was crucial for the team’s moral boost after a disappointing 6-0 loss against the South Korea U16 women’s team in the first match of the tour.

Besides, eight different players scoring the nine goals also showed the positive attitude of all the players in the team.

The coach is happy with the victory but has asked his players to avoid complacency stating that sterner tests are yet to come.

The Bengal girls will face Oju Middle School Women’s Football Clubon Monday(July 17) at1:00pmBangladesh time.

All the players and staff are hopeful to continue with the winning mentality till the end of the tour.
