SAFF U18 Women’s Championship: Skipper Moushumi eyes final

Thimpu: Bangladesh U18 women’s team is set to take on Bhutan on Friday evening in the second semi-final of the ongoing SAFF U18 Women’s Championship 2018 in Thimpu, Bhutan. Ahead of the game, skipper Mossammat Mishrat Jahan Moushumi is confident that her side will take to the pitch with a view to making it to the final of the maiden edition of the tournament. “Our preparation is complete and the game against Bhutan is a very important one as a victory will take us to the final. We are ready to give it our all,” said Moushumi. Expressing her confidence in her teammates, the youngster said, “We’ll go in with only one target – a win. And I believe that if the girls play their usual game against Bhutan then we’ll go through to the final.” Head coach Golam Rabbani Choton also reiterated his captain’s confidence and said, “We came here to play the final. That is our primary target.” “My players will give it their all for a victory. Please, pray for us. I believe we can come out from the contest as winners and play in the final,” Choton concluded. Asked about any injury concerns, Choton said that only forward Shopna has a little niggle. Reflecting on Bhutan’s commendable performance in the group stage, the experienced coach said, “Yes, Bhutan played really well and they indeed will be a tough opponent. However, our girls also played well in the two group games.” Shedding some light on his team’s game plan, Choton said, “Our target is the final and we’ll play attacking football to register a win.” Asked whether any player would be the key for Bangladesh, he said, “Look, what I have is a team. And there are several players capable of making the difference. I believe in them.” Acknowledging Bhutan’s home advantage, the head coach observed, “Every International team get home advantage. But our girls have also played many international matches in the past 2 years. So, I believe our girls have the capability to handle any situation.” The match between Bangladesh and hosts Bhutan will kick-off at the Changlimithang Stadium in Thimpu at 7:00pm (BDST) on Friday, October 5.
