Jamal reach semis beating MSC 1-0

Dhaka, May 24: Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club Limited moved into the semi-final of the Walton Federation Cup 2017 beating Mohammedan Sporting Club Limited 1-0 at the Bangabandhu National Stadium on Wednesday evening.

The first quarterfinal of the curtain raiser tournament of 2017-18 season was dominated by Sheikh Jamal and their overall teamwork made all the difference. Mohammedan lacked the finishing touch all through the match and paid the price.

Sheikh Jamal sent chill through the Mohammedan spine in the ninth minute when Gambian forward Mamadou Bah broke free in the midfield but sent his right footer well above the crosspiece from the top of the box.

Jamal continued their attacking intentions and in the 26th minute, their Nigerian forward Raphael Odovin shot straight to Mohammedan goalie Mamun Khan after delightfully receiving a curved long ball of defender Md. Alauddin.

Raphael was the defaulter again in 30th minute failing to beat Mamun Khan in a one to one situation. Spearheading a speedy counter attack, Raphael found Mamun at his mercy under the post, but the tall goalkeeper jumped onto the feet of Raphael wiping the danger out.

Mohammedan succeeded to see one of their efforts come close in the 44th minute when Nigerian forward Nkowcha Kingsley’s suddenly taken right footer was parried away by Samiul Islam Masum.

Finally, on the 75th minute, substitute forward Solomon King broke the deadlock with his first touch. Taking the place of Mamadou Bah just a minute ago, King placed a precise cut back of Raphael Odovin into the middle of the net (1-0).

With the win, Sheikh Jamal qualified for the semis as the first team while Mohammedan bowed out of the tournament with a huge scope of improvement.
