U16 girls getting ready for first clash against Philippines

Dhaka: Bangladesh U16 women’s national team is sweating it out in the training sessions to prepare for their first match against Philippines in the second round of qualifiers of the AFC U16 Women’s Championship 2019 Thailand. On Tuesday, following the morning session with the senior group at Myanmar Football Federation’s regional football academy ground in Mandalay. The U16 players enjoyed a light stretching session at the fitness suite at the hotel. The senior players also trained alongside the junior girls. Apart from a few muscle aches and pains all are in good spirits. Sanjida, the talented forward, said, “We are training extremely hard which is good for us. We have just got used to the humidity which makes it even more challenging. We are all pleased to be here.” In the afternoon, head coach Golam Rabbani Choton and U16 skipper Maria Manda spoke at the pre-match press conference alongside all the other coaches and captains of the competing nations. All teams in Round 2 of the AFC qualifiers – China, Myanmar, Philippines and Bangladesh – are excited and looking forward to the first games which will be played on Wednesday, February 26. All head coaches acknowledged each of the teams’ strengths and echoed a mutual professional respect. Choton emphasised his excitement of the Bangladesh players playing against quality teams in this competition. “We have been working very hard since Round 1 of the competition in Dhaka. We are ready to compete and do Bangladesh proud,” said Choton. Bangladesh will square off against Philippines in the tournaments opening match at the Mandalar Thari Stadium in Mandalay, Myanmar at 2:30pm on Wednesday, February 27.
