Throughout the AFC U16 Women’s Championship qualifiers campaign, Bangladesh women’s team has performed exceptionally well. All the players have given their best on the pitch and the recent qualification for the finals is a proof of their diligence.
Among the top performers for the Red and Greens has been forward Tohura Khatun. The skillful playmaker has been a raging tempest against the opposition defence. So far, she has blown away every obstacle in her path. The 15-year old attacking midfielder from Muktagacha, Mymensingh, has been making the headlines for all the right reasons.
The playmaker has, time and again, proven that she can not only control the game but can also score goals with commendable ease. In the second round, Tohura scored a blazing quadruple in the first match against Philippines which gave Bangladesh a thumping 10-0 victory and the momentum necessary for the tournament. The first came in just 3 minutes into the match and she went on to score three more times.
In the second round in Group B, Tohura is the joint top scorer with four goals alongside China’s Zhang Hongyan. Overall, Tohura scored 7 goals in total which has seen her rise to fifth position in the top scorers’ list in the whole qualifying campaign.
Tohura Khatun has been a consistent performer with multiple hat-tricks to her name. Her recent performance has sparked her strive to contribute more to the team. The coach and whole team is hopeful that her best is yet to come in the upcoming years.
Tohura Khatun, quite fittingly, wears the number 10 jersey for the U16 team and aspires to follow the footsteps of the best number 10s in the history of the game. She studies in class 9 in Kolsindur High school, Mymensingh. International football has brought her well deserved popularity in her village. With proper nurturing, Tohura looks forward to contribute more for her country.
