Potential SAFF campaign ends in woe

Dhaka: A SAFF campaign that could have been a dream for Bangladesh football has turned into a nightmare. After two brilliant victories in the first two matches, Bangladesh crashed out of SAFF Suzuki Cup 2018 on goal difference after losing to Nepal in the third and final game. The hosts suffered a 2-0 defeat to Nepal at the Bangabandhu National Stadium in Dhaka, Bangladesh on Saturday. Bangladesh played good football throughout the match but could take their chances. On the other hand, Nepal were clinical. The men in red drew first blood in the 33rd minute of the game through Bimal Gharti Magar. Cornered, Jamie Day’s men went all out to secure at least a point but all of their attacks were thwarted by the Nepal side. Desperate to find an equalizer, the Red and Greens committed too many men forward in the ding minutes of the game and Nepal took the chance to secure a 2-0 victory on the 90th minute. With all the Group A matches played, Bangladesh, Nepal and Pakistan all have 6 points each but a superior goal difference saw Nepal top the group with Pakistan through to semi finals as runners-up and Bangladesh crashing out of the competition with the worst goal difference.
