Sk Russel’s Sohel Rana injured; wife, son killed in road accident

Dhaka: Midfielder Sohel Rana of Sheikh Russel Krira Chakra was critically injured and his wife, son killed when their motorcycle was rammed by a speeding truck on the Dhaka-Aricha highway in Noyarhat area of Savar around 2:00pm on Saturday.

Sources said that Sohel Rana and his family were at their ancestral home in Manikganj after his team got eliminated from the just finished Federation Cup and the trio were returning to Dhaka as Sohel Rana had to join the team on Sunday for the upcoming Independence Cup.

The accident took place when the speeding truck rammed their motorcycle killing Rana’s wife Arfin Akter Jhuma (24), and son Abdullah (4) on the spot while Rana himself sustained serious injuries, said Javed Masud, officer-in-charge (investigation) of Ashulia police station.

Rana was treated at the Gonoshasthaya Kendra in Savar.

Rana received the dead bodies of his wife and son and returned to Manikganj for their burial.

BFF President Kazi Salahuddin, Senior Vice President Abdus Salam Murshedy, vice presidents, executive committee members, general secretaries and all employees of the federation have expressed their condolences over to Rana at his great loss, prayed for his quick recovery.
