Four steps up, many more to go

Dhaka: Bangladesh national team has climbed up four places in the latest FIFA rankings much to the delight of all the football lovers of the country. The Red and Greens have moved up to the 188th position from their previous 192nd by accumulating 909 points. Besides, Bangladesh has overtaken Guam (on 907 points) in the AFC standings to take up the 41st position in Asia. http://jalaleeradio.com/uploads/201404.png The 1-0 win over Cambodia back on March 9 had a part to play in the latest upward movement in the rankings. However, the newly published rankings also mean that Bangladesh will be one of the six unseeded teams from among 46 teams in FIFA’s Asian zone when the draw for the first round of the joint qualifiers for the 2022 FIFA World Cup and the Asian Cup 2023 are made on April 17th. Bangladesh will have to face one of Malaysia (35th in AFC rankings), Cambodia (36th), Macau (37th), Laos (38th), Bhutan (39th) or Mongolia (40th) in a double legged qualifying match for the 2022 FIFA World Cup and the Asian Cup 2023. Nevertheless, this tiny little development speaks volumes as it is a concrete evidence of the hard work put in by the players and staff of the national team in recent times. With time, the young Bangladesh team will improve and bring more glory to the nation – hopes the BFF.
