Football lovers remember Monem Munna

Any Bangladeshi football fan who is asked to name his best ever Bangladesh squad finds it hard to keep the name of a certain defender out of the XI and that name is Monem Munna aka ‘Kingback’. The legendary defender breathed his last on this day back in 2005 due to kidney failure. Monem Munna was the gem of Bangladesh football during the late 80s and 90s. He played for top clubs like Muktijoddha, Brothers and Abahani but it was at the latter where he built his legacy. He played for Dhaka Abahani for 11 years starting from 1987 and won numerous trophies and accolades.

Munna made his debut made his debut for Bangladesh in 1986 and served the nation with his brilliance before he retired from the national team in 1997. Monem Munna was born on June 9, 1968 in Narayanganj. He was diagnosed with a kidney disease in 1999. Even though his sister gave him a kidney in 2000, the shining star of the nation’s football bade goodbye to this world on February 12, 2005. Today, all the football fans of the country remembered the national hero with a heavy heart. BFF President Kazi Salahuddin, who was also Munna’s coach at Abahani when he was at his peak, remembered Munna with great fondness. On the 14th death anniversary of Monem Munna, BFF President Kazi Salahuddin, Senior Vice President Abdus Salam Murshedy, vice presidents, executive committee members, general secretaries and all other employees of the Federation pray for the eternal peace of his soul.
