AFC Cup: Abahani thrash Manang 5-0

Bangladesh Premier League’s defending champions Abahani Ltd Dhaka on Wednesday thrashed Nepalese club Manang Marshyangdi 5-0 in the group stage match of AFC Cup 2019. The Abahani’s home clash of the two-leg tier was held at Bangabandhu National Stadium at 5:45 pm this afternoon. Abahani star forward Jibon, who is also seen consistent in scoring for Bangladesh national team, inaugurated the goal fest in the 11th minute of the game. Lagging behind, the travelers held their wall strong. However, Abahani doubled the score line with their foreign recruit Belfort’s goal in the second minute of the additional time in the first half. After the break, the hosts became more furious and made the score line 3-0 with their local midfielder Jewel’s astonishing goal in the 63rd minute. 13 minutes later, Abahani’s Nigerian forward Sunday Chizoba joined the party to quadruple the goal difference. When everyone was thinking that the hosts are winning the match 4-0, Abahani’s star midfielder and Bangladesh National Team’s former captain Mamunul Islam put the final nail in Manang’s coffin to rewrite the score line 5-0. Apart from the score line, all the stats also talk for the Sky-Blues. They demonstrated a clear dominance throughout the match by taking a total of 33 shots 11 of which were on target and making a better ratio of successful passes. On the other hand, the travelers could only manage to be a bit ahead in terms of ball possession which is 51.4. After this gigantic victory, Abahani are more hopeful to become the group champions as they beat Manang 1-0 on their first meet on April 3.
