Abahani trump Jamal in seven-goal thriller

Dhaka: Abahani Ltd. Dhaka came back from behind to beat a fighting Sheikh Jamal side by the margin of a single goal in a 7-goal thriller in Round 12 of the ongoing Bangladesh Premier League 2018-19 at the Bangabandhu National Stadium on Saturday. The Sky Blues had their work cut out for them when Luciano Perez scored for Sheikh Jamal in the very first minute of the game. With rain pouring down, there were a lot of thrills and spills but no shortage of excitement in a true battle of giants. Hurt, Abahani began to push for the equalizer and were rewarded pretty quickly. Foreign recruit Masih Saighani brought his team on level terms in the 10th minute. Jamal defender Manik did not do his team any favour when he turned the ball into his own net in the 27th minute. With the lead on their side, Abahani began to look more dangerous and began to create more chances. The Dhaka giants got their third goal when Belfort found the net in the 63rd minute. Forward Nabib Newaz Ziban then completed the quadruple of Abahani goals in the 70th minute. However, it was not all over. With nothing more to lose from the game, Sheikh Jamal players went all in at Abahani. Ziku made their efforts count by scoring in the 80th and 90th minute. The goals only increased Jamal’s sighs at the final whistle as they were left pondering what could have been had there been a little more time left. With the win, Abahani keep the pressure on table toppers Bashundhara with 30 points from 12 games. On the other hand, Sheikh Jamal stay at the 8th position with 13 points having played a game less.
