Olympic women’s qualifiers: BAN-MYA face-off Thursday

Yangon: Bangladesh women’s Olympic football team is prepared to lock horns with neighbours Myanmar on Thursday, November 8 in Group C of Round 1 of the Asian qualifiers of Olympic 2020 women’s football discipline. Bangladesh team head coach Golam Robbani Choton said that his players will give it their best in the tournament scheduled to kick-off on Thursday. Choton made the comment while speaking at the pre-match press conference of the tournament on Wednesday. “We’ve had a good year of preparation and my players will exercise their capabilities in this tournament,” said Choton. “However, this is a tough tournament with some very string teams and our squad is still very young. We’ve come here to play good football and gather valuable experience for the future,” he added. Bangladesh skipper Sabina Khatun also acknowledged the strength of their opponents. “Myanmar is a very strong team. We’ll have to give it our all to get a good result,” stated captain Sabina. The prolific striker, however, is confident of putting up a good show against the hosts on Thursday evening. Speaking at the press conference, Myanmar head coach Win Thu Moe said, “We are the favorites in this group. Moreover, we are in a good position in FIFA rankings.” “We played some friendly matches against China and Japan to prepare for this tournament. We’ll try to win all the matches and qualify for the next round,” he added. Speaking about Bangladesh, Thu Moe said, “Bangladesh is now a good and organized team but have less experience than us. They also have a chance to do well as two teams can qualify from each group.” The match between Bangladesh and Myanmar will kick-off at the Thuwunna Stadium in Yangon, Myanmar at 5:30pm (BDST) on Thursday, November 8.
