BD brush aside Maldives 2-0 in SAFF U18

Thimpu, September 20: The Bangladesh national U18 football team continued their winning run by beating Maldives 2-0 in their second match of the SAFF U18 Championship 2017 on Wednesday evening.

The Red and Greens took to the field on Wednesday with a view to beating the Islanders and keep their title hope on track.

Sure enough, it took Shaikot Mahmud only nine minutes to break the deadlock and give Bangladesh a deserved lead.

After taking the lead, Bangladesh put more pressure on Maldives rather than taking their foot off the gas.

Bangladesh created four chances after the first goal before prolific striker Jafar Iqbal finally scored the second on the 45th minute with the fifth chance.

The two teams went into the break with Bangladesh leading 2-0.

After the break, Maldives looked more feisty and were desperate to reduce the deficit.

The Bangladesh defence, however, hardly gave them a clear cut chance to do so.

On the contrary, it was Bangladesh who looked more likely to get a third goal but were denied twice by the Maldivian goalkeeper.

The win sees Bangladesh go top of the table with six points from two matches with a goal difference of +3 whereas Maldives are languishing at the bottom of the table losing both of their games.

Bangladesh will square off against Nepal in their third match on Monday (September 25) at 7:00pm BDST.
